Last weekend saw us back in the Eastern Region for a variety of reasons. Saturday morning we attended a friend’s wedding and reception on Winebrenner Seminary’s Scotland Campus. It was a beautiful day for the service and a very meaningful ceremony. That evening we went to a baum brennen. Our friends Jim and Diane invited us to come for an evening of food, fun, fellowship, and a blazing bonfire. You can bring your Christmas tree if you like, but Jim always gathers up a few extras to feed the flames and brighten the night. It was a fitting end for the dry greens of Advent and the left over Christmas treats. |
George and Rebecca Spangler are the point leaders, but they’ve surrounded themselves with a team of leaders. About four years ago when the Spanglers were serving the Camp Hill congregation they sensed the Lord calling them to start a new congregation. So, they started a home Bible study which ultimately led to launching a new church. The purpose of Turning Point Church is “to help people connect with God and represent Him in their families, communities and world.” |
We arrived shortly before the 10:30 a.m. start which gave us time to check out the welcome center and the hospitality table. The Encounter Service began with several praise songs keyed to the theme “On the Journey with Jesus.” George spoke from John 3 and talked about the great love of God from verses 14, and 16 through 18. He concluded by inviting the congregation to take their next step with Jesus. The youth praise band then closed the service with two songs. After worship George and Rebecca greeted the congregation at the back door. |
Turning Point is a multi-generational church with a strong community and world vision. As might be expected they support and promote Eastern Region’s 20/20 church planting vision. In fact on Tuesday night this past week they hosted a regional fund raising dinner for new church starts. On a weekly basis the church sponsors a number of connection groups for men, women, teen girls, kids, youth in general, as well as adult Bible students. I’d suggest a visit to the church web site http://www.tpcog.com/ for more information. ONe Mission Together with you, Ed Soli Deo Gloria! |
