None of us can really say for sure where we’ll be tomorrow, much less a year from now. With that being the case, I do want to put some dates on your radar as you think about next summer and where you might be, if the Lord wills it.
We’re a year away from the 2019 General Conference Sessions: Uncharted 2019. Next July 22-24, brothers and sisters from across the Churches of God, General Conference (CGGC) will gather for the triennial General Conference Sessions on the campus of the University of Findlay in Findlay, OH.
We’ve been praying, planning and preparing for Uncharted 2019 and anticipate that our time together next summer will be a watershed moment as we look to the future and what will be required for us to faithfully carry out the mission that God has given us as His people.
Uncharted 2019 will be more than just a denominational business meeting. Yes, we have some business that will need to be addressed, but this won’t just be three days of motions, seconds, debates and votes. We’ll also have Dr. Tod Bolsinger who serves as the Vice President and Chief of Leadership Formation and Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary. Dr. Bolsinger is the author of Canoeing The Mountains: Christian Leadership in Uncharted Territory and he will be speaking at several of our general sessions as we explore what it means for the CGGC to live out our calling faithfully in this uncharted territory that lies before us.
We’ll have rich times of worship and as well as special breakout sessions designed to help us identify the next steps required as we move forward together as family of believers. There will be some great opportunities to fellowship and connect with brothers and sisters in Christ from across the body of the CGGC. This will be an important and stimulating three days as we look out over the horizon of the next few years and embrace where God has placed us and what He’s asking of us as His people.
So I want to ask two specific things related to Uncharted 2019. First of all, would you join us in praying for the special time? Please pray that we would hear God clearly and respond in obedience to Him as we prepare and position ourselves for the future. Secondly, please prayerfully consider joining us in Findlay on July 22-24, 2019. Whether you are an elected delegate or not, we sense this is going to be an important moment in our history as a denomination and we’d love to see as many folks as possible join us for what the Spirit is going to do in our time together.
Be on the lookout for more details later this fall.
Christ’s Peace,
Lance
