The work that began in Borel 50 years ago has continued to demonstrate and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ and God has blessed the work with remarkable growth. The Haitian Conference now has 40 churches and over 25 primary schools.
I had the opportunity to visit several of our churches in Haiti as well as tour the vocational schools near St. Marc along with the clinic and hospital in Pierre Payen. On Sunday morning there was a parade that followed a 2 mile route that started at the Borel compound and circled back around to the Jerusalem Church, our first congregation in Haiti. The celebration service was packed as many pastors and delegates from across Haiti were in attendance. The celebration was a wonderful time of remembering the past while looking forward to what God is leading the Haitian Conference to take on in their next 50 years.
Do you realize that God wants to work through your life in a way that will still be bearing fruit 50 years from now? God uses ordinary people to do His work. What is He calling you to do as a result of your response to follow Jesus? I believe that God still uses ordinary folks to accomplish His mission here on earth. I believe that throughout the CGGC, God is calling ordinary folks to join Him on His mission in this world. Will we say yes to Him?
God may be calling you to serve in another culture like Haiti or it may be across the street in loving and serving your neighbor. He may be calling you to serve an unreached people group somewhere else in the world or perhaps He’s calling you to reach out to your “de-churched” coworker or friend. Perhaps He’s even calling you to reach out to another culture in your own community. We all have a wonderful opportunity to respond to His grace and love by serving in His mission in the world. Make no mistake, He is calling you to serve.
How are you following Jesus today, responding to His call in obedience, loving and serving in a way that will continue to produce fruit 50 years from now? I want to leave that kind of legacy. I hope you want to leave that kind of legacy too.
Let us cast off whatever may trip us up and pursue the work that Jesus has for us today. Let’s give our lives to His mission in the world so that people might be transformed by Jesus and experience the full and abundant life that is only found in Jesus Christ our Lord. Let’s not just celebrate what God has done in the past, but look forward to what he wants to do in and through our lives today and into the future. May His kingdom come, His will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
Christ’s Peace,
Lance
