There are a number of ways in which we tend to respond as Christians. Sometimes we try to ignore the issues in the hope that they’ll go away or get resolved without any substantial effort of our own. Often we retreat to our familiar “corners” and prepare to do battle with anyone who chooses not to embrace our position on a particular issue. Far too often we join in with the rest of the culture and end up just trying to scream past the others who don’t share our point of view. These aren’t easy times to live in and there aren’t easy answers to the problems we face and too frequently we end up paralyzed and overwhelmed by what we’re facing in our culture and in our world.
God calls us to be salt and light in this world. Jesus teaches us to pray that the Kingdom would come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I believe that the greatest challenges facing our world will be resolved by Jesus, working through His people to accomplish His will here on earth. To be obedient in this moment will require our best thinking and work.
Over the years Q (www.qideas.org) is one of the places I’ve gone to help me think well and live well, particularly in response to some of the overwhelming challenges facing our world. This fall they will be offering Q Commons (http://qcommons.com) on Thursday, October 13, 2016. I want to encourage you to consider participating in this year’s Q Commons. As you can see below, there are several local sites to choose from, some of which may be in your own back yard or at least close enough to make it a short drive. There is also an online option as well. The cost per person is typically less than $30, so gather your leadership team or a few friends and spend an evening thinking well about some of the biggest issues facing our culture at this moment.
Most of the issues facing our world have to be addressed at a local level: our town, our village, our community. What a great opportunity to pull together with others from your area and spend an evening of learning how to think well and live well in the midst of some really challenging circumstances.
Christ’s Peace,
Lance
