FUSION CHURCH: Manheim, PA
Manheim is located in the heart of Lancaster County where many surrounding communities already have a CGGC congregation. In years past the CGGC started two congregations in Manheim which for one reason or another subsequently closed. Nevertheless recognition should be given to Wilmer and Dot Andrew who pioneered a work in the town that continued from 1984-2006 as well as John and Arlene Yoder who led a new start in 2010-2013. When the Yoders retired, it seemed to Chuck Frank, director for new churches in the Eastern Region, that, rather than closing the Manheim work, perhaps it was time to rebirth it in a new location. That’s exactly what happened. Some from the former church and an enterprising group of new leaders with a vision for Manheim began to meet and pray late last year. God poured out blessing and favor, and they found a site for the new congregation at Enck’s Conference Center just south of Manheim on the Lancaster Pike. This past spring they did any number of things to make people contacts, from neighborhood visitation to passing out water at community events and more. After a couple preview services to work out “the bugs” the church held its first public service on July 27th. |
MOVEMENT CHURCH: Findlay, OH
The congregation is meeting in the new Glenwood Middle School which provides a contemporary setting with good technology and ample space. Linda and I walked around the corner from our house to the school for the 10:15 start time. It was a beautiful fall day (first frost), and as we approached the building we saw the signage (top notch) and met the greeters and parking attendants (very friendly). Inside it was a bit chaotic because of the crowd, but the staff was ready and well prepared. The worship team did an excellent job opening the service and Eric’s message on “Suspicions” set a good tone for this new born church. Basically he shared that it’s okay to have questions about life and faith. In fact God invites us to ask. He used the Nicodemus story in John 3 to invite everybody to take their next step with Jesus no matter what their background, religious or not. |
